Several thous
and radio amateurs gathered this past weekend for the New England Amateur Radio Festival (NEAR-Fest). Held each May and October at the Deerfield, New Hampshire fairgrounds, hams traveled from around the U.S. and Canada for this New England tradition. Warren Elly, W1GUD, was a founding member of NEAR-Fest. His commitment to both this event, as well as the field of amateur radio, was remembered with the wearing of “Warren W1GUD/4 SK” badges. Warren’s son, Walter, KC4UCQ, was also on-hand to open the gates marking the official start of the festivities on Friday.
